Giant Panda Diet

The giant panda's diet consists of about 99% bamboo every day. They are mostly herbivores, and basically eat bamboo only. The average giant panda eats about 20-30 pounds of bamboo shots a day! Bamboo leaves are high in protein, the stems less so.
Pandas spend about 12 hours a day eating, and they eat fast. Bamboo is not very nutritious, so they have to eat a lot of it. They have broad, flat molars, good for chewing their food.
To get the food into their mouths, they hold the bamboo in their paws, and eat it.
A panda must have 2 types of bamboo in it's area or it will starve.
